בניגוד לפסיכולוגיה הטיפולית הקלאסית שהתייחסה לנפש האדם מתוך פריזמה פתולוגית, הפסיכולוגיה החיובית, שהתפתחה בשני העשורים האחרונים, שמה דגש רב יותר על צדדיו הבריאים והמתפקדים של האדם. כפועל יוצא, מושגים כמו רווחה סובייקטיבית, חוסן, החלמה, צמיחה פוסט טראומטית והתמודדות הפכו לחלק משמעותי מהשיח הטיפולי והמחקרי. זה משתלב גם עם ענף מחקר המתפתח באופן דרמטי בשנים האחרונות וענינו מקומם של דתיות ורוחניות בתפקודו הנפשי של האדם. מסגרת חשיבה זו משתקפת בעניין המחקרי של מספר אנשי סגל ובמגוון של קורסים המוצעים בבית הספר.
